About

In looking for a therapist our most pressing need is usually relief from psychological discomfort or pain.  My initial focus is to help you understand what you are dealing with, what contributes to it and how to address it in a way that leads to feeling better and making lasting emotional change.  Another element of successful therapy is feeling that our problems are understood in a way that is useful, resonates with our sense of who we are and provides us with a greater understanding of ourselves.

All too often today the mental health field focuses exclusively on improving symptoms while ignoring what our symptoms tell us about ourselves, our emotional lives, what we have been through and how all of this informs our experience of the present (often leaving people with a sense of isolation or disconnection from themselves and others).  In our work, we will strive to understand the meaning of your difficulties and provide you with a deeper appreciation of your psychological life.

I have been in clinical practice for over twenty years, initially as a clinical social worker and then as a licensed psychologist.  I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and my Postgraduate Certification in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy from the Derner Institute of Advance Psychological Studies at Adelphi University.  I completed my clinical internship at Columbia University Medical Center.  If you are interested in learning more about my professional experience and training, I invite you to visit my LinkedIn page below.
